Day 49 - Tuesday 11.27.2012

Graphics 1 - Continue work on the AVATAR PHOTO MANIPULATION. (When they say use a shortcut involving CTRL, on a MAC it is CMD.)  EYELASHES (STEP 9) is OPTIONAL.  Here is are the EARS (STEP 12).

Time Lapse of your Avatar Project. Not a replacement for the TUTORIAL.

Graphics 2 - Finish your GAMEBOY. Click HERE. If you have finished, you're next project requires you to use the same techniques to recreate a CAR. You may choose any car that is pre-1995. Use the same method. Outline the car using the PEN TOOL for precision. Use SHADING, HIGHLIGHTS, and GRADIENTS. It is recommended to do the line work in ILLUSTRATOR, but if you choose to do all of it in PHOTOSHOP, make sure you make it 17"x11" @ 300 resolution.

A little inspiration.  GRADIENTS are your friends.

Multimedia 1 - APOLOGIES:  I hadn't meant to include "ONCE YOU HAVE FINISHED, TURN ALL 3 PAGES TO TURNITIN under 3 PAGE SCRIPT." in yesterday's post as it was meant for TODAY!

Today, I want your to PRINT your 3 PAGE SCRIPT.  Have the person seated to your IMMEDIATE RIGHT read your script.  Yes, I will be looking at the SEATING CHART to make sure you get the RIGHT person.  If they are absent, skip to the next person in line.  If you are at the end of the row take your paper to the person at the front of the row.  They MUST answer the  following questions about your 3 PAGE SCRIPT:
  1. Does the FORMAT look right?
  2. Is there a definite BEGINNING, MIDDLE, & END?
  3. What is the MAIN PROBLEM presented by the end of PAGE 1 (ACT ONE)?
  4. What is the How is the MAIN PROBLEM overcome by PAGE 3 (ACT 3)?
  5. Are there parts where the writer needs to SHOW what's going on rather than TELL?
Once EVERYONE has read 1 script and answered the questions, pass to the RIGHT AGAIN and have another person answer the questions.  Your READERS can write their ANSWERS and their NAME on the back of your script.  Turn the PRINTED SCRIPT with the 2 sets of answers in on my desk.  REVISE your script and turn it via TURNITIN.

PLAN ON SHOOTING PAGE 1 THIS WEEKEND!!!  IF YOU CAN SHOOT THE WHOLE THING, GO FOR IT.  START RECRUITING PEOPLE TO BE IN YOUR FILM.  PEOPLE IN THIS CLASS WILL HELP YOU WITH YOURS IF YOU HELP THEM WITH THEIRS.  KEEP IT SIMPLE.

Multimedia 1 - PAGE 3 (ACT 3)  The top of this page should be the CLIMAX, the point of no return, the most intense part of the film.  Here your main character will succeed or fail!!!  The second half of PAGE 3 is basically wrapping up the ending.  Make sure the main problem from the end of PAGE 1 has been overcome and that any relationship issues between your characters is resolved.
ONCE YOU HAVE FINISHED, TURN ALL 3 PAGES TO TURNITIN under 3 PAGE SCRIPT.

Every movie and story can roughly be explained using 3 ACT STRUCTURE. MAKE SURE your script is in PROPER FORMAT!!!

Graphics 1 - WORKDAY.

Graphics 2 - WORKDAY.

Multimedia 1 - If you haven't started on PAGE 2 (ACT 2), do so.  The end of PAGE 1 should have presented your main character with a problem.  PAGE 2 (ACT 2) can basically be broken into 2 parts:

  • Explore or explain the problem (why is it important? What happens if we fail?)
  • A Plan of attack (What it the main character going to do?  What is the plan?)
NOTE: Any relationships you introduced in PAGE 1 should be explored.

Day 46 - Tuesday 11.20.2012

Graphics 1 - This week we will head into full on PHOTO MANIPULATION. You are going to create an AVATAR version of yourself. You should use your WEBCAM to take a photo of yourself (FACE ONLY). Right-CLICK that photo and choose OPEN WITH > PHOTOSHOP. From here you can SKIP TO STEP 3 since we are not using the photo from the tutorial.  (When they say use a shortcut involving CTRL, on a MAC it is CMD.)

Graphics 2 - Work on your GAMEBOY. Multimedia 1 - Every movie and story can roughly be explained using 3 ACT STRUCTURE.  Today, I want you to focus on writing the first page of your script in PROPER FORMAT!!!

You need to tell me about your character and their world in 1 PAGE (ACT1).  Everything that was on your CHARACTER SKETCH needs to be presented by the end of page one.  If you look at the graphic below you will see that by the end of page 1 (ACT 1) you need to have a your character face a MAJOR CONFLICT (PLOT POINT.)  Here's a SAMPLE based on my CHARACTER SKETCH from yesterday.

Multimedia 1 - Your next project coming up AFTER BREAK is a 3 MINUTE FILM. As we have seen with the commercial, a video takes careful planning. Our first step today will be to create a CHARACTER CONCEPT.

POST TO YOUR BLOG:
  • Look up the meaning of YOUR NAME. There are many sites like NAMESPEDIA. Post the meaning of your name (FIRST or MIDDLE) to your BLOG.
  • Come up with a name for a FICTIONAL CHARACTER for your story. You have to know the meaning.  Here's a site for RANDOM NAMES. Post your character's name and meaning to your BLOG.
  • Answer these 5 questions for your Character:
  1. What is their worst FEAR?
  2. Who is their BEST FRIEND?
  3. Who is their WORST ENEMY?
  4. Do they have a FAVORITE BOOK or HERO?
  5. What it one of their CHILDHOOD MEMORIES?

Day 43 - 11.14.2012

Graphics 1 - Here is your next TEXT EFFECT. This time use your last  name.  Both effects from this week should be posted to your blog.
You know if this note applies to you:
NOTE:  These effects are fairly easy if you ACTUALLY READ the instructions.

Graphics 2 - WORKDAY:  This project requires us to do a TECHNICAL DRAWING.  The idea here is that we create a graphic that is so geometrically perfect that it looks REAL.  This is achieved through PRECISION, LIGHTING, and TEXTURE.  Click HERE for your next project.  HINT: I prefer to do STEPS 1-4 in ILLUSTRATOR.

Multimedia 1 - Your COMMERCIAL is due in my DROPBOX and on your BLOG by Thursday.  Use you time wisely.  I will be looking for editing mistakes.  When I watch them I will have your SCRIPT pulled up.  If it's in the SCRIPT, it better be in the VIDEO.  If it's in the VIDEO, it better be in the SCRIPT.
