Day 42 - Tuesday 11.13.2012

Graphics 1 - Finish up SHINY RETRO TEXT EFFECT, but use your own name.  Text Effects are used a lot in print and web and for the most part they are relatively easy.  I will be assigning one more on WEDNESDAY before we move on.

Graphics 2 - WORKDAY:  This project requires us to do a TECHNICAL DRAWING.  The idea here is that we create a graphic that is so geometrically perfect that it looks REAL.  This is achieved through PRECISION, LIGHTING, and TEXTURE.  Click HERE for your next project.  HINT: I prefer to do STEPS 1-4 in ILLUSTRATOR.

Multimedia 1 - Work on editing your Commercial together.  Remember, companies pay a lot of money for those 30 second endorsements of their projects, so take time and make it CLEAN and PROFESSIONAL.  You must have a clear BEGINNING, MIDDLE, & ENDING with Your TAGLINE and LOGO appearing before the end of the commercial.

For help, read this article on HOW TO FORMAT A SCREENPLAY.  You will be shooting your 30 SECOND COMMERCIAL this weekend, so here is a SAMPLE SCRIPT so you can see the format in action.

In general, 1 PAGE = 1 MINUTE in proper screenplay format.  So for your commercial script, I am expecting a 1/2 page of screenplay format...even if you have no DIALOGUE.  Remember, you CAN'T TELL US what a character is thinking, you have to SHOW US.

Day 37 - Monday 11.5.2012

Graphics 1 - Today, we start on the COFFEE CUP ICON.  This project will show us how to use Photoshop's built in VECTOR tools even though it is not a VECTOR program like ILLUSTRATOR.  Photoshop is a RASTER program that manipulates PIXELS.  Even though they look similar, the tools work differently.  Yes, it will be frustrating at first, but so was Illustrator.  Take a look at the video below for help with the first set of steps.

Graphics 2 - Continue work on your NON-PROFIT WPA POSTERS.  Remember, that 4 colors is the MAXIMUM.  The poster MUST include a logo, tagline, and a bold graphic.

Multimedia 1 - Your 30 SECOND COMMERCIAL. concept is DUE via TURNITIN by the end of the hour.  You can open the template and simply replace my answers with yours.  KEEP IT SIMPLE!  You will be filming these commercials yourself, so don't go over the top.  I simple, well-conceived, CALL TO ACTION can make a great commercial with no bells or whistles.
